I also like to make him watch the red carpet interviews; and while he just likes it for the interviews, I'm also looking at all the gowns the celebrities are wearing. There was a new rule this year about interviewers not being allowed to ask the women what they are wearing, and they had to talk to them about other stuff (the films they were in, etc.), because that's what they do with the men on the red carpet. But as the hilarious host Chris Rock pointed out, interviewers don't ask the men about their outfits because they're all wearing the same thing. For the most part, each woman is wearing something absolutely amazing and unique, and yes, I would love to hear about how the designer custom made it for them, as well as how they feel about their competition for the awards tonight. So there is definitely a middle ground.
For me, the highlights from last night were that Inside Out won for best animated film (if you haven't seen it, it's absolutely amazing, and I'm not just saying that as someone who is obsessed with Disney), and Leonardo DiCaprio won for his role in The Revenant (also amazing, and one of the films I am so happy I gave a second thought to seeing, and not just because he won). I'm also so glad that Brie Larson won for best actress in Room and that Spotlight won for best film. A lot of real talk also happened concerning the LGBT community, Black actors' roles in the film industry, and sexual abuse and consent, and these are all very important things for some of the most influential people in the world to talk about on such an important night for them, when pretty much the whole world is watching.
Now, since I am a fashion blog, let's get back to my favourite looks of the night. While I normally separate my favourite looks into categories, this year I decided to rank all the red carpet looks by how much I liked them. My two absolutely favourite looks, tied for first, were Cate Blanchette and Olivia Wilde. Cate seems to always wear the same style dress, with the deep V, tight body, and flared out bottom, but it definitely works for her, and I love seeing the new designs and colours that she chooses within that style every year. Olivia's dress was so amazing, reminding me of a Greek Goddess, and it was one of the more unique dresses this year.
